JohnJohn Kenny, elected as the 2009-10 RI president, told Rotarians at the convention that it was special honor to be the first Rotarian from Scotland to be president in the history of Rotary.

John Kenny, a member of the Rotary Club of Grangemouth, Central, Scotland, was elected as the 2009-10 president of Rotary International at the fourth plenary session of the RI Convention in Los Angeles on Wednesday. In his acceptance remarks, Kenny expressed his gratitude for the support and encouragement that he and his wife, June, have received.

"We have come from a small country of five million people with three Rotary districts," he said, "and it is therefore a special honor to be the first Rotarian from Scotland to be president in the history of Rotary -- and only the fifth from the British Isles."

From the world
All districts (and each low-income country within a district) located in low-income countries are eligible to submit 2009-10 applications to compete for an Academic-Year or Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship to be funded by the Scholarships Fund Pool for Low-Income Countries.  This opportunity is available regardless of a district’s financial contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) or available District Designated Funds (DDF).

Applications must be received by 1 October 2008 to be considered for this world-competitive opportunity.  In November 2008, a committee appointed by the Trustees will review all applications submitted in order to select the approximately 32 most qualified applicants to receive a 2009-10 Ambassadorial Scholarship.

My Journey in Rotary PDF Print E-mail

July 2008

I was invited to join Rotary Club of Vasco in mid 70s where I continued for a period of 2 years or so before I  moved to Mapusa, North Goa in     1981. However, I could not join any Club in Mapusa immediately because of my business commitment. Thereafter, when I was little easy on my business commitments, I joined Rotary Club of Mapusa in July 1989 in the Silver Jubilee year of the Club,  where I continue to be an active Member of the Club till date. As I look back, when I joined the Club, I was just an ordinary member of the Club.  Within a spam of Just 3 to 4 years, I was requested to take over as President of the Club in the year 1993/94.  As a President Elect in 1992/93,  I had the opportunity  of attending  a Multi District Seminar on Rotary Foundation and I had the good fortune of meeting many RI Officers who later on became RI General Officers.  At this Multi District Meet, I saw Rotarians queuing up to be felicitated on becoming Paul Harris Fellows.  Little did I know at that time that their contribution was going to Rotary Foundation which was providing yeomen service to the community in and around the Clubs all over the world.

FOLLOW YOUR ROTARY DREAMS and MAKE DREAMS REAL PDF Print E-mail

July 2008

If one wants to be successful in life, be it a personal, professional or social, one should be a dreamer.  Dreamer is one who thinks, plans and visualizes his/her path for the future. One has to dream big to accomplish big things.  It was in 1998-99, the legacy of the then RI President Jim Lacy, took a challenge to dream of Rotary.
And the theme was “FOLLOW YOUR ROTARY DREAMS”. If one wants to make a dream real one has to follow it persistently with devotion and dedication. It was the dream of Paul Harris to have a Rotary world full of fellowship and service. After a century, Rotary stands as a symbol of service. Look at the dream and vision of Arch Klump, who dreamt of an endowment for doing good in this world. He followed it with all sincerity for more than two decades and now his dream has given fruits. Through the Rotary Foundation which was his brain child, we touch the lives of many and make an effort to bring smile, happiness and contentment through our educational and humanitarian programmes. As a Governor, I challenged strong Rotarians of our Rotary District to follow their Rotary Dreams. Believe me, everyone was dreaming and their dreams made lot of difference to our District.

6. PETS
To prepare the club leaders for 2008-09 a totally different approach was used for imparting training like having interactive sessions with smaller groups of club leaders, PETS at three regions, training in local language, involving club trainer for training etc. The new concept was liked by all and all the club leaders actively participated in the training programmes with record attendance. Additional PETS was conducted at Bijapur,Sangli and Belgaum for Presidents Elect who did not attend PETS 2008 for valid reasons. The details of the three PETS conducted during 2008-09 are as follows.
