Dr. Jorson Fernandes

This multifaceted, Rotarian, an ENT Surgeon, has varied fascinating activities ranging from socio-political movements, to Charitable  & Humanitarian organisations of State and International levels. He is a medical graduate of Goa Medical College and thereafter completed his Diploma in Oto Rhino Laryngology (DORL) through College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS), Bombay.
He is an active member of Indian Medical Association, Goa State Branch. He is the Life Member of St. Luke’s Medical Guild and was its secretary for 2 years. Presently he is the Secretary of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Goa State Branch from 2009. He has very keen interest in Emergency Medical Services although he is an ENT Surgeon. He successfully completed his courses in ESFA and PHEC through Royal College of Surgeons Edinburg, MFR (Medical First Responders) and Training for Instructors through ADPC, Bangkok. He spends a lot of his time conducting Medical Safety Courses for Corporates, Teachers and various organizations like the ONGC, IPSHEM, MRF, Sesa Goa, Cipla, Abott India Ltd., Putzmeister, NUSI Maritime Academy, NUSI Wockhardt Hospitals, Apollo Victor Hospitals, Institute of Nursing Education, GIRDA, Medical and Dental Colleges. He is the  Executive member of Association of Trauma Care of India, Chairman & Surgeon Examiner of St. John Ambulance Association of Goa and represented the Country at the Asia-Pacific Regional meeting in KL, Malaysia. He is also the Founder member and President of South Goa Rural Medical Dev. Society that has constructed a Hospital OPD complex and is presently being expanded and managed by NUSI Wockhardt Group of Hospitals at Cuncolim, Goa.

Having started his career in social life as a Jaycee in 1985, there was no looking back but an onward journey of service to mankind He Participated in Ekta Sandesh Rally as a Peace Crusader of Indian Jaycees travelling on scooter from Porbunder to Shanti Niketan covering about 4800 Kms., with message of Peace and Unity. His mammoth work saw him in 1990-91 as State President of Goa State Jaycees and was recognized with the Senatorship a rare honor of life membership of Jaycees International.

He was adjudged as Outstanding President of Rotary International Dist. 3170 in 1992-93. Held various posts at Dist. Level like RDC for Rotaract, Matching Grants, DCC for RYLA, Area Aid, Asst. Governor, DCC of GSE Outgoing, DCC for GSE Incoming, and one amongst them was the most passionate, Dist.Secretary Training. He has many short books written by him on Training for the benefit of District Officers  like the Training Tips, Basic Work book on Training and The Trainer. In the most popular program of the Rotary- Group Study Exchange Program he was chosen as a Team Leader leading 4 young professionals and visited North Carolina in USA. A proficient speaker has been on many a platforms of Rotary within and outside the District either as a Key note speaker, facilitator or as  a Pilot faculty. He has been associated with several organizations like the Goa Heritage Action Group (that takes up issues in enlisting and preservation of heritage sites of Goa) as its Founder Chairman. He is also the Life member of YMCA , executive member of Catholic Association of Goa, Life member and founder treasurer of Society for International Development and  Life Member of Association of Youth Hostels of India.
Life member and former Managing Comm. Member of Indian Red Cross Society Goa state branch. He held the post of Chairman for Junior Red Cross and Youth Red Cross for several years and was instrumental in taking the movement to its peak performance of having 75 Higher secondary schools in Goa opting for YRC and 125 High schools opting for Junior Red Cross. He was also a member till recently of the National Comm. For Fly. Welfare and Maternal and Child Health and Blood Donation Comm. of Govt. of India.

Being a student union leader he is very vocal fighting against any injustice; He was the former vibrant secretary and Vice President of the  Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD). He is the Advisor to Cuncolim Citizens’ Action front that fights against polluting industries.

He is also the member and representative for NGOs on the District Revised National TB Control Programe (RNTCP), District Disaster Management Committee and the Goa State Oil Palm Monitoring Committee of the Goa Govt.
Awards hound a performer, he has been awarded by the Goa state Red Cross with the Outstanding Red Cross Volunteer award; the Kamal Patra Award of Goa State Jaycees for professional excellence and the Runner-Up outstanding Senator award of Indian Jaycees. He was adjudged as the Outstanding Oil Palm Farmer of the Goa State for the highest Produce per hectare.
His source of inspiration is his loving wife Jane and his lovely children Joshua & Joelene. Jane is a teacher at the Rosary Higher Secondary school teaching Psychology and French. She is a member of the board of studies and is involved in the editorial board for writing books in French at School and at the Higher secondary levels for the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. She being a member of the Cuncolim Jaycees, Indian Red Cross Society Goa State Branch and the St. John Ambulance Association, Goa keeps herself busy.
He is elected as the District Governor Nominee of RI Dist. 3170 for 2012-13.
